It may not be in quite the same category as Neil Armstrong’s “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, but the library is taking a large step forward this week. We’re introducing a new service that moves us further into the digital age, and we’re creating a lot of hoopla about it. It’s HOOPLA, a streaming video service that gives our users immediate online access to thousands of movies, television shows, music albums and audiobooks.
Library users can begin enjoying titles – from major Hollywood studios, record companies and publishers – available to borrow for instant streaming or temporary downloading to their smartphone, tablet or computer. Hoopla is offered at no charge, and requires only a Raynham library card to get started. There’s no waiting for any item you wish to borrow, and all items are returned automatically at the end of the lending period. It couldn’t be easier or more convenient.
Simply click on the Hoopla icon on the library’s webpage and create an account with your Raynham library card. Browse through the great selection of movies in dozens of categories including classic, comedy, documentary, drama, sci-fi, romance, horror or exercise and fitness. Or choose a comedy or mystery television show to watch. There are many television favorites as well as an extensive collection of educational/ instructional videos and children’s programming. Listen to the latest album from your favorite artist or enjoy hearing an audiobook.
There are free mobile apps for both Android and Apple devices that you can download from either the iTunes Apple Store or from Google Play. We’ve put links to both apps on our website to make it easy for you to get started. To use the service from your computer or laptop, simply click on the Hoopla icon. There’s no need to download an app for your Internet browser. Once you have downloaded the app to your device(s) and/or clicked on the hoopla digital link on our website, raynhampubliclibrary.org, you will be prompted to enter your email address, a password, your library card number, and your library card PIN number. The system will validate that you are in good standing with the library, so that you may begin to browse, borrow, and enjoy the content. You’re allowed to borrow 10 items a month.
Hoopla joins the library’s other e-content services: OverDrive for e-books, Freegal for downloading music, and Tumblebooks for viewing children’s e-books online. We’re excited about this new service, and we know that you will be too. Come and see what all the hoopla is about.
